Top 6 Best Movies to Watch when You Have a UTI

Everyone with a urethra has a chance to experience one, and for us few unlucky souls with a urinary tract infection at this very moment, literally any relief would be a welcome blessing. Grab your cranberry juice, D-Mannose, and Azo Pain Relief Extra Strength, and buckle down for three days of feature length films until your antibiotics finally kick in.

6. The Way, Way Back (2013 dir. Nat Faxon and Jim Rash)

An obvious choice, but we had to list it. Says one Consensus reader, “every time I even think of a water park, let alone one called ‘Water Whizz,’ something deep in my bladder twinges painfully.”

5. 17 Again (2009 dir. Burr Steers)

This movie is about a lot more than painful urination. In fact, only one scene takes place in a bathroom, and it features Zac Efron dripping wet in a shower. Sometimes, complete and blatant denial of one’s medical situation is the only way to cope with the early stages of a UTI. Join Mike as he learns how to stop being a neglectful partner, while you ignore whatever situation is brewing below.

4. Aquamarine (2006 dir. Elizabeth Allen)

You guessed it! This one is about water, too. The amount of time these women can spend in bathing suits without heading to urgent care is enviable on the best of days.

3. Palm Springs (2020 dir. Max Barbako)

A decent, if not clichéd plot is elevated by the ridiculous chemistry of Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti. It features two gorgeously maintained pools, three or four scenes in or adjacent to a bathroom, and a campsite walking distance from a pharmacy.

2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005 dir. Tim Burton)

My favorite part of having a UTI? Ignoring my pediatrician’s recommendation to cut back on sugar. Plus, the magic of the Chocolate Factory probably means that that fudge lake is bacteria-free.

1. The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004 Dir. Garry Marshall)

Anne Hathaway is so beautiful that even though I know the movie almost word for word, I can still be pleasantly immersed for the 1 hour and 42-minute run time. The fountain scene makes this movie topical, because immediately after falling in she rushes inside to change out of her wet clothes. We could all learn a lesson from diligence like that.
