Pinwheel Day Is Now Windmill Day!

Can’t wait for Pinwheel Day 2024, but tired of the same old-same old? Say “arrivederci” to your socks, because the beloved Haverford tradition is finally getting revamped. A recent announcement from the administration informed the College that the first warm day of spring will now be marked by industrial-grade, 20 meter tall windmills instead of the typical dinky, plastic, boring little pinwheels.

In his 44 minute-long speech, Jesse Lytle emphasized that “these are gonna be like Dutch windmills, the olde timey ones…. Not wind turbines. They aren’t gonna be that big, they’re like 20 meters tall or something. Wind turbines like the ones on wind farms are like a hundred feet tall.”

Vice President Lytle emailed The Consensus shortly after the conference with mock-up images of the aforementioned wind structures to avoid any confusion:

Student responses to this recent development have been mixed, with some seniors claiming that Windmill Day is “a blasphemous deviation from our one and only true Haverford tradition.” Alternatively, other students are “excited to watch the mill turn grain into meal” and “ready to harvest the meal.”

Concerned Fords will be relieved to learn that the windmills are not here to stay, and will be ceremoniously blown up, along with Stokes Hall, after Windmill Day ends.
